The Norris Center for the Performing Arts, located in Rolling Hills Estates, has some great events lined up for this summer. But there’s one in particular that anyone with small children will find a difficult time passing up.
You’d be hard pressed to find any family with little ones that don’t love Dora the Explorer (from the beloved Nick Jr. show.) Your kids will love the chance to see Dora live in “Dora’s Pirate Adventure.” Dora and her friends go on an expedition to Treasure Island, where they go over Dancing Mountain and Silly Singing Bridge and meet up with some Pirate Piggies. The production is perfect for all ages. There are three performances: Saturday, June 29 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 30 at 2:00 p.m.
Although the show is of high caliber, the tickets won’t break your wallet. Prices for balcony, box seats, and orchestra are all the same—it’s $25 for adults and $18 for children 12 and under.
If you think your kids would like to see a student production, check out the July 19-28production of “The Wiz.” These tickets are a little bit cheaper at $20 for adults and $10 for anyone under 18 years of age. The performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
For those of you who have kids that just want to be onstage instead of watching from the audience, the Norris Center also provides fun camp programs for your little stars. The next session runs from July 15-26. The camp goes Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The performance of “Summer in the Jungle” will be the final Friday at 1:00 p.m. Tuition for this session is $500 (which includes a T-shirt.) If your child is interested, sign up as soon as possible because the camp is limited to 100 students. If you aren’t able to pick your child up at 1:00 p.m. every day, there are also Encore Hours, where you can come as late as 5:00 p.m. to get your kids. Campers are treated to games, movies, and other fun activities. The price runs at $200 for the entire camp or $30 per individual day. This is a great option for parents who work and need some daycare during the summer.
So, whether your child just wants to observe Dora from the theater seats or they’re dreaming of their name in lights, you’ll find something for your family to enjoy at the Norris Center!
