Best Places to See Holiday Lights in Southern California

There is nothing like the magic of holiday lights!  If you are looking for a place to take your kids to see some of the best holiday light shows of the season in Southern California, read on and map out your path for a festive night of lights!

Top Places to See Holiday Lights in Southern California

  • LA Zoo Lights:  One of Los Angeles’ brightest holiday traditions shines even more brilliantly than before! You and your family can walk through an expanded area of the Zoo where you will see glowing light animals, a decked-out L.A.I.R. and a dramatic display combining light, water and music. You can even see real reindeer, and visit with Santa (December 4–December 23, from 6–9:30 p.m).  Ticket prices range from $11-$16 depending on your age and whether you go during the week or on the weekend. Children under 2 are free!
  • Winterlit in Santa Monica:  This is another family favorite, Winterlit lights up downtown Santa Monica and offers guests many holiday activities including ice skating. The ice skating rink is located at the corner of 5th and Arizona Ave and is open between November 1-January 18.
  • Candy Cane Lane, Woodland Hills is a local neighborhood display of lights like no other.  It begins on December 2nd and runs through the end of the year and this tradition of lights dates back to 1952.  If you want to drive through an area with spectacular lights, this is a neighborhood that you should not miss!  
  • Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park presents Snow in Ghost Town!  Every night during Merry Farm (through January 3rd), when it gets dark, the buildings and paths in Ghost Town’s Main Street and Schoolhouse Road are filled with glow and snow! Thousands of sparkling lights dance to the beat of “Let It Snow” while snow gently falls in this spectacular one-of-a-kind moment.  You can also enjoy the Snoopy Ice Show and take a holiday train ride on Engine 41!
  • Holiday Wonderland at Petco Park:  If you are in the San Diego area, head over to Petco Park for a magical display of candy colored lights, a ride on the Polar Express and even build a snowman or play snow with a sled ride down!  You can visit between Dec. 4-6, 11-13; 18-23 from 4:30-9:30pm.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for kids and children under 3 are FREE!
  • The Hotel Del Coronado is also all lit up for the holidays for the first annual DELights at the Hotel Del Coronado.  Take your family for visit to the Garden Patio of the Hotel Del, where you will find a winter wonderland of lights, storytime with Ms. Claus, food, drinks and a 5 minute video mapping light show! DELights begins on November 26 and runs all the way until New Year’s Day.
  • Another great stop to make with your family to see beautiful twinkling lights is the Garden of Lights in the San Diego Botanic Garden.  Well over 125,000 sparkling lights illuminate the flora of this fantastic 37-acre urban oasis from 5–9pm each night for a magical holiday experience.  This event is held between December 5-23 & 26-30.  Tickets cost $10 for members and $15 for non-members.  All children ages 3-12 are $5 and children 2 and under are free.
