Los Angeles is known to most as the entertainment capital of the world. It is home to countless celebrities, and there are many touristy spots to see (think Hollywood sign and the Walk of Fame!). But, what if you want to visit LA more as a local and less as a tourist? We have gathered some tips to help you see LA from a different vantage point and get a local flavor that add to your love of LA!
- Theater District: New York is not the only big city with an active theater scene. The Theater District is LA has been home to many breakout stars and amazing live productions. The downtown theater district stretches for six blocks (from Third to Ninth Street along South Broadway) and houses live theater and some of the most renown movie theaters is the world.
- Want a laugh? Consider relaxing and seeing a comedy show while you are in town. One of the most popular venues for locals is Inside Jokes which has featured many comedy greats including Dave Chappelle.
- Looking for a quiet beach? While all of the tourists flock to Malibu and Santa Monica, you can escape the crowds and get some sun and fun at Zuma Beach. Located just north of Malibu, you can surf, relax, play volleyball and take a stroll without all of the crowds. Enjoy a quiet day on the pacific coast at Zuma Beach.
- Get a unique and beautiful view of the city on a hike in Runyon Canyon. This large city park spans 160 acres, and even has an off leash dog park. You will be hard pressed to find a more spectacular view of the city and get some exercise at the same time!
- Griffith Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country and features hiking trails, pony rides, train rides carousels, and in walking distance from the LA Zoo and Griffith Observatory where you can get beautiful view of the sky! This is a must-see for families spending time in LA.
- Los Angeles County Museum of Art is located in LA on Wilshire Blvd and hosts more than 150,000 works from ancient times to present day. Prepare to get lost with the art and plan to spend at least a few hours at this art museum.
- Koreatown: Great food, karaoke, shopping and even a driving range to improve your golf game, you will not regret a visit to Koreatown, that was named America’s hippest neighborhood in 2012!
- Study Your LA Map: Spending time getting to familiar with your map of LA ahead of time can be a helpful tool if you want to appear more like a local and less like a tourist. LA is extremely busy and driving around can be stressful. If you can decide ahead of time exactly what you want to accomplish and what you want to see, your trip will be more enjoyable, less stressful and you will accomplish more. Having a sense of the city before you arrive will save you time as well!
