Warm sun, ocean breeze, sand between your toes…there is simply nothing like these sunny, beaches in Southern California.  And, unlike other beaches around the country, you can enjoy them all year round, not just at certain times of the year when it is warm enough.  So, if you and your family are looking for a day trip, or a weekend getaway, do not miss these top 6 must see beaches in Southern California!

    1. Laguna Beach:  Laguna Beach is located in Orange County, California, just between Los Angeles and San Diego.  It stretches 7 miles and is known for clean and calm water and beautiful white sand. There are lots of things for you and your family to do during your visit to Laguna Beach.  You can visit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, hike in Heisler Park or play volleyball and watch body surfers at the public Thousand Steps Beach.
    2. Coronado Beach:  This beach spans 1.5 miles and it’s cornerstone is the Hotel Del Coronado, one of California’s most historic landmarks, which opened it’s doors back in 1888.  Coronado Beach is a wonderful place to spend a day at the beach with your family.  You can take a tour of the great hotel, shop, eat, stroll in the sand and you may even catch a glimpse of a beautiful whale off the coast!  Whale watching is extremely popular off of Coronado Beach!
    3. Newport Beach:  If you want to spend some time at an upscale beach in California, Newport Beach is just the place.  The shopping rivals Rodeo Drive and the beach is known for it’s beautiful, silky and blonde sand.  It is a great area family strolls, wading in the water and watching surfers ride the waves.
    4. LaJolla:  When you see a picture of the California coastline, you may very well be seeing LaJolla Cove.  It is one of the most photographed beaches, even though it is one of the smallest.  The waves in LaJolla are known to be some of the calmest of all Pacific Beaches, so it is a great place for families who want to swim or take some scuba diving lessons.
    5. Santa Monica: Santa Monica Beach has 3.5 of nicely maintained coastline that features many fun activities to keep you busy during your visit.  You can take a bike ride, play beach volleyball and you might even catch a movie or TV shoot, as this is a very popular backdrop for many movies and TV shows.  You can also venture over to the Santa Monica pier where you can ride thrilling rides (ferris wheel, roller coasters), play in the arcade, eat, shop or even take your kids to the somewhat hidden aquarium!
    6. Huntington Beach: Huntington Beach is another favorite for families.  Otherwise known as “Surf City, USA”, Huntington Beach boasts over 10 miles of coastline, with a pier for fishing, great restaurants and shops, playgrounds for kids, volleyball nets, and a paved path for walks, bike rides and rollerblading or skateboarding.  You and your family will have no trouble staying active with a trip to Huntington Beach.
