- The Infamous Hollywood Sign: There is nothing more iconic in LA than the Hollywood Sign. It was originally created in 1923 as an advertisement for real estate development. Now, it is known across the world as a symbol of US culture and the entertainment capital of the world. One of the best views of the Hollywood sign is from Griffith Observatory, which opened its doors in 1935. From here, you can see many beautiful views of the city, as well as learn about space, and the history of the space program. Your kids will not want to miss these amazing views!
- Capitol Records Building: This 13 story building is located in the heart of Hollywood, just to the north of the infamous intersection at Hollywood and Vine. As the world’s very first circular office building, many think it looks like a stack of records. It is home to Capitol Studios, the site of many iconic music recordings through the years.
- Los Angeles Theater: The Los Angeles Theater was built in 1931 and is part of the National Register of Historic Places. It is located in the historic Broadway district and seats more than 2000. Plan to take a picture in the gorgeous French Baroque-inspired lobby while your kids get a flavor of what theater was like back in the early 1900s.!
- Eastern Columbia Building: This 13 story turquoise historic building is located in the Broadway district of LA and is widely thought to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
- Natural History Museum, Exposition Park: If your kids want to take a look back in time, take a visit to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the largest natural and history museum in the US. The artifacts and specimen at the museum look back more than 4.5 billion years! If your child is interested in mummies, plan a visit this fall where you can check out the famed exhibit: Mummies: New Secrets From The Tombs.
- Page Museum La Brea Tarpits, Miracle Mile: Is your little one interested in dinosaurs? Page Museum La Brea Tarpits is an excavation site with a museum where your kids can learn all they ever wanted to know about pre-historic times and those dinosaurs and conduct their very own dig. In addition to the excavation site, you can also visit the museum with special exhibits, a fossil lab and a 3D theater. So, let your kids BE a historian themselves at La Brea Tarpits.
